However, I'm not certain that some pieces would have been completed - in my opinion, the thought-time necessary to write good tests would have slowed us down too much. We did our best without them, but we're now going back and writing Cucumber for the existing features (in the app, no less).

Re: Lowdown - our Rails Rumble '09 Application - sean cribbs :: digital renaissance man

@claymation Yes, we do! We will be launching an updated/bugfixed site after the judging is over. Technical difficulties (read: a static URL in one of our generated emails) prevent us from moving the lowdownapp.com domain name just yet without being disqualified.

Re: Lowdown - our Rails Rumble '09 Application - sean cribbs :: digital renaissance man

Fabulous awesome. Do you plan to keep hacking on it?

Re: Lowdown - our Rails Rumble '09 Application - sean cribbs :: digital renaissance man

This is a very good idea. We wrote unit tests, and some functional tests for ours, but didn't bother with full-on integration features tests.

Good luck, and I hope this really develops into something bigger. Make sure you look at Pivotal Tracker, as it's the tool I currently and I like it.

Re: Lowdown - our Rails Rumble '09 Application - sean cribbs :: digital renaissance man

Great concept and amazing execution! All the best in turning it into a small business (I'd sign up!)

Re: Lowdown - our Rails Rumble '09 Application - sean cribbs :: digital renaissance man

Nice work. I played with the same idea a few months ago, but never got it completed. I'm excited to see where it goes. Good luck!

Re: Lowdown - our Rails Rumble '09 Application - sean cribbs :: digital renaissance man

Great job on the app! That's interesting you did not have any tests. I agree a full BDD is not practical for a rumble, but a simple set of high-level integration tests to run each action I find to be invaluable. This way all code is executed and any obvious errors are raised.
